Im looking for free software to convert dvd's to mp4 format?

-my grandad purchased a machine that puts old video's to DVD, so i asked him to convert some old films of when we were little, now i have them on dvd i would like them on my ipod. is there any free software i can convert the films?Handbrake is a free program that will do this easily - handbrake.fr is where you can find it.
