How to erase white background of a picture on photoshop cs4?

-I Have a logo picture with a white background.I want to make this picture without any background.I mean I just want that logo.not that logo with a white background.I'm very new to adobe photoshop and I have CS4 version of that.please help me.sorry for my very bad english.bad learning in school.

;-)You need to start by viewing your Layer palette. There you will see that you logo with it's white background in contained in a layer titled "Background." This layer must be elevated to be a "true" layer. You do that by double clicking on the layer and accepting the name "Layer 0" by clicking ok. Now with the Magic Wand click on the background white you want to remove and press the delete key. If some of the logo is white and that was also removed, then you must set the Magic Wand to select only contiguous white. See the option bar immediately above the image window.

Now what to do with it? If you are placing it onto a color background, say the internet, then you must use the Save for Web, select gif or png, both with Transparency checked. You might need to add a Matte of the color of your background just before saving. If you try to save as a jpeg, you will get the white background immediately returned. On the other hand, if you were going to print it on paper, you didn't have to remove the white background as there is no white ink.well i dont know about photoshop but if you have fireworks tehn you can get rid of the white backround by clicking on the wand feature and clicking on the part you want to delete, then simply press delete on your backround. logoes can also be created on fireworks too.
